Supporting you, and your staff’s mental health
Written by Jordan Odell, Digital Marketing Executive and MIAB's Specialist Business Overheads Insurance Adviser.
As a healthcare professional, your day is often filled with back-to-back appointments and the various challenges that come from working in a high stress environment, so it’s no wonder that burnout and absence due to mental illness are a common issue within practices across the UK – in both the NHS and private sectors.
It was reported in 2017 by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that working days lost due to stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 49% of absence due to ill health.
Further to this, HSE found that those working in the human health and social sector between 2014 and 2017 were the most likely to have higher than average levels of stress, depression or anxiety, than those in other professions.
As a practice owner you have three main concerns: your business, your staff and your patients. You need to feel secure in the knowledge that should something go wrong, you’re covered.
MIAB’s Business Overheads Insurance and Locum Insurance offer tailored cover for a range of risks that could result in your staff being absent from work, from jury service to providing support when your staff need to look after their health.
The policies are bespoke to your individual needs. Offering support when you, or a key member of staff, need to take time away from work because of stress, anxiety and/or depression.
One specialist insurer MIAB works with for Business Overheads and Locum Insurance is QBE, who offer – as standard – access to the award winning private clinical company, IPRS Health.
Founded in 1995, IPRS Health originally started out as providers of physiotherapy, but through innovation and specialism, have since developed their offering to mental health support through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) training given by an accredited, and fully audited, network of CBT Therapists, and a specialist panel of partner providers. This ensures a comprehensive, national coverage, so wherever you or your staff are located, you can be cared for.
There is a choice of treatment options available after a period of absence exceeding eight weeks, allowing you the flexibility to choose how to best manage your return to work.
How it works
The process will start with a telephone call from a dedicated professional who will find the most suitable option for you, including:
- Online supported CBT – Innovative and self-guided with proven clinical effectiveness. Regular clinician support available on desktop, mobile and tablet.
- Video and telephone psychological treatment – Live sessions via IPRS Health App and CBT Therapists. Available on desktop, mobile and tablet.
- Face-to-face psychological treatment – A nationally managed and audited cognitive behavioural therapy, clinical psychology and counselling network.
These insurance policies are a great way to care for yourself and your staff, allowing you to offer additional levels of support in a competitive employment market.
