Our brokerage service provides both expert knowledge and, importantly, claims support. As the pressures of running a modern day healthcare organisation continues to grow, claims can arise from all types of situations. Whilst an insurance adviser may be able to give guidance on how to minimise the event of a claim when issuing or renewing a policy, navigating the claims process can feel overwhelming. Whether its notification periods or who to contact, keep in mind these additional tips to ensure your insurer does not reject your claim.
Check your Policy Documents
As the claims process is not “one size fits all,” it’s crucial to review your latest policy documents. Your policy documents might be from a recent renewal or if you have had a mid-term adjustment, but they will determine how or if you’re covered, and the notification period for making a claim.
Policy documents can also be found on our website if you are struggling to view them elsewhere, please follow the link below:

Make a Timely Notification of your Claim
Once you have reviewed the relevant policy documents, it’s essential to comply with the notification period that is stated. Depending on the policy you need to claim on, notification periods will differ. Example notification periods, if your current scheme is with Allianz, are as follows:
Practice and Property Owners Insurance:
Typically follows a 28 to 30 day notification period depending on the claim.
For instance, damage or consequential loss by riot or civil commotion have a 28 day notification period whilst all other cases have a 30 day notification period.
Please notify your insurer immediately upon being advised of any prosecution which may form the subject of a claim within your policy.
Locum Insurance:
We recommend that you make a notification of absence within ninety (90) calendar days of any occurrence which may result in a claim under your Locum policy. This is regardless of your deferment or excess period.
This is not only to comply with the condition of the policy, or else your insurer may reject your claim, but not making a timely notification may result in a delay of your claim.
Professional Indemnity and Third Party Liability Claims:
If you have been made aware of an event that could escalate to a claim, please inform your insurance broker or insurer immediately, even if the event does not result in a claim. You are still required by law to comply with specific timeframes.
Get in Contact
Please contact 01438 547040 during our normal working hours, 9:00am-17:00pm, Monday to Friday, or email claims@miab.co.uk in the event of a claim.

Work Constructively with your insurer
If you have notified your claim through your insurance broker, such as ourselves, we are able to help manage communications between you and the insurer during the claims process. It is important to respond promptly to your insurer’s requests, however, it is also the insurers responsibility to equally respond to any enquiries and claims notifications in the same manner. The insurer may choose to bring in independent loss adjusters or tradespeople in the event of a claim.
Third parties working on behalf of the insurer should be treated with the same respect as they would your insurance broker or insurer.
Working constructively with your insurer can help to prevent you from incurring costs which may be as a result of your claim or from services that might already be provided by the insurer.
For a more in-depth understanding of the claims process – including notification periods for specific policies, information you may need for your insurer and your rights in the event of a claim – please refer to your policy wording or speak to your insurer.
