With the launch of the Clinical Negligence Scheme for General Practice, many of those working in primary care are looking to the government scheme as a cover-all replacement to their existing cover.

Whilst the scheme is designed to provide cover for clinical negligence claims arising from NHS work for both clinical and non-clinical staff, it has its limitations.

For example – and perhaps most importantly – private work, including; medicals and report writing, travel vaccinations and inoculations, medico-legal support, coroner’s court costs, GMC investigations and Good Samaritans acts will not be covered.

Despite predictions from MDOs, it remains uncertain whether the government will provide cover for any works pre-April 2019, so if you’ve taken out any ‘transitional cover’, or claims-made arrangements, it’s worth speaking to an expert about your options for any clinical work you have undertaken prior to April 2019.

Introducing Indemnity Essentials, a comprehensive policy providing protection for work not covered by the government state-backed indemnity scheme.

MIAB’s new indemnity solution fits neatly around the state-backed indemnity scheme, plugging the gaps in cover. And uniquely, there’s no cap on the income you’re entitled to earn from private work.

Unlike MDOs, the cover is insurance-backed, enforceable by law, underwritten by expert insurers and supported by a comprehensive policy wording. Does your defence organisation do that?

The Indemnity Essentials policy is tailored to you, with a choice of either £1m, £2m or £3m limit of indemnity, and flexibility to decide your covers – all with a nil excess.

Cover starts at less than £970 per individual for both elements, and discounts are available for groups of three or more.

Indemnity to Principal

Indemnity to principal means our insurance policies extend to the employing entity if both they, and the insured GP are named in litigation relating to private work. An important feature to have as it’s not uncommon for the entity to be named in litigation for the actions of their employees.

Group Discounts

Large practices, federations and primary care networks can take advantage of group discounts when taking out our Indemnity Eseentials suite for three or more members.

UK Wide Cover for any Insured Member

Our Legal Essentials product provides UK wide cover for any insured member, regardless of who they are working for as standard. Malpractice Essentials can be extended to enable the clinician to conduct private work for other employees (as long as the work remains the same as that already disclosed).

Extended Cover

Cover can be extended to cosmetic and beauty procedures including fillers and Botox.

Cover For All Clinicians

Cover is available for clinicians of all grades, not just GPs. You can protect all of your specialists under just one policy.

Take Control of Your Insurance

As the entity, our arrangements allow you to maintain control of your insurance, whilst removing the need to pay for expensive individual premiums through separate defence organisations.

Your Insurance All In One Place

As Specialists, we provide a range of insurance products designed to protect you, your business and your family. Remove the headache of organising your insurance by having them all in one place.

Renewal time comes around so quickly but it was a simple and easy process. Given lots of time to review the renewal policy and ask any questions, which were answered very promptly. The price is very competitive too! Great service from a very good company!
