KEY PERSON ABSENCE COVER – PROTECTING YOUR STAFF

Key Person Absence Cover – Protecting Your Staff

Written by James Pearce and Abby Thynne, Specialist Surgery Insurance Advisers

It can be quite a worry for practices to plan how they would cover a key member of staff if they were absent from the practice due to sickness or accident for an extended period of time.

Since the NHS contract changes in April last year, many practices have assessed the suitability of their Locum Insurance policies as the reimbursement changes will provide an element of cover for their salaried GPs and partners – but how will the practice provide cover for their non-clinical staff?

MIAB were the first broker to offer a Surgery Insurance policy that also covers the absence of a key/non-clinical member of staff – giving business owners peace of mind knowing they will have financial assistance should their nominated Key Person be absent from the business due to sickness or accident.

What is Key Person Absence Cover?

Key Person Absence Cover provides a cash injection of up to £500 per week when your nominated key member of staff is absent due to sickness or accident after an excess period of eight weeks*.

You can use this to pay additional overtime costs to those staff picking up an extra workload or simply cover the costs of getting a replacement in until they are able to return to work. Better still, a benefit will be paid for up to 52 weeks, again, providing peace of mind that the policy is supporting your business when you need it the most.

What if I have multiple practices insured on my policy?

It is becoming more and more common for clients to have more than one practice insured on a policy. MIAB realise this and will automatically cover one nominated Key Person per risk address for no additional premium. So if you’re a multi-site practice rest assured our policy is designed with you in mind.
